By investigating the overlapping domains of film and architecture, this studio provides a forum for exploring how the art of film and filmmaking can inform the architectural process. Layering and the moving image are perceived as existential forces within interior environments, at the building scale, and within the larger urban context. Focusing on methods of joining form, materials, and space, students will examine the medium in particular reference to issues of space, time, mood, and memory.
Overview
This studio blog has been established to support collaborative research, analysis, and documentation of a third year undergraduate architecture studio at City University of New York/New York City College of Techonology. The studio is led by faculty member Gregory Marinic.

Intent
The studio is a joint effort of the Department of Architectural Technology, Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation, and Grand Street Business Improvement District. Site documentation and analysis shall identify patterns, flows, and narratives specific to East Williamsburg that will inform new architectural and public greenspace proposals for the commercial corridor. Study of filmographic sequencing and staging techniques will overlay programmatic needs of the neigborhood and its vicinity. The resulting body of research will undertone and advance pragmatic design solutions for the Grand Street BID at interior, building, and urban scales.

Whether intentional or not, Amaury's final presentation for the hotel suite concept clearly reflects patterns established early in the design process. His original film reveals an initial attitude about light and atmosphere that gained depth, purpose, and ulimately architectonic form through focused research, study, and implementation.
